I’m a relatively new musician who started playing drums 2 years ago, I have already advanced to the point where i can play at a large event. Keep in mind i play for my church, the music department does not have much members and so when i joined 2 years ago it helped the department but as it stands we only have one in training Bass player, and all the ppl who wanna join wanna play the drums, so now i want to start Bass. I’ve always loved it but my teacher suggested i not start drums and Bass at the same time so i didn’t now its time to take up the second one.
I do not have access to a credit card or any way of paying for it so free lessons would be preferable

admin Some Drum Questions From A Beginner…?
Hey guys. For years I have known that I wanted to start playing the drums, but it took me until this year to get the courage and willpower to start playing. As of now, I DO NOT own a drum kit, but I plan on getting a job this summer and saving up for a cheap one (Somewhere between $300-500). I am at a point where I can play simple AC/DC songs, if that helps show my “position”. I am looking to start playing simple classic rock songs, and then much later moving onto my favorite genre of music: Classic Metal.
But I have a lot of questions. The more you can answer, the better.
1. What are some simple beats I can help me become a better drummer?
2. Where and how can I learn to read drumming composition? It seems many sites show drum beats in this manner, and I have no idea how to read it!
3. Are there any sites that show how to play the drums to certain songs? I always see websites giving the guitar notes to play songs on guitar, but never on drums.
4. My right hand is superb for drum playing, when compared to most other beginners. However, my left hand is just terrible! My right hand is very quick, and when I play something quickly, it hits the same spot almost every time. But with my left hand, the drum stick is flailing all over the place, more like hitting random spots, and it has a much harder time staying at that speed. What can I do to equal my hands up? Please give detail
5. Would it be good to invest in a practice drum pad? Here are 2 I am looking at:
http://cgi.ebay.com/VIC-FIRTH-6-DRUM-PRA…
http://cgi.ebay.com/10-DRUMMERS-PRACTICE…
6. I can’t seem to do a drum roll. Everytime I try it just frustrates me because I can’t seem to do the whole RRLLRRLLRRLL beat. Anyway I can learn in a less frustrating, more educational way?
7. I was given 2 drum sticks by my friend. I just discovered though that they make 2 different sounds! One makes a higher pitched “clunk” then the other, and I am wondering if this may confuse me when doing rudiments. Is this a problem?
8. I probably should have asked this question first, sorry for the confusion. But where should I start? I don’t have the money or the time to start drum lessons, so I plan on teaching myself, along with help from people online, online lessons and websites, and my 2 friends who are expert drummers. I am just unsure of where I should start practicing. Should I start by playing along to simple songs? Or should I play without music to rudiments and paradiddles? Or a combination of both?
Thanks guys, I appreciate the help.
Sorry guys, just one more question. Would you reccomend buying a drum set online or from a local shop? Thanks
1 Final Question: I am not sure exactly where I can stick my drum set. There is no room on the first or second floor, only in my finished basement. However, there are no walls or doors in the basement, so I wouldn’t have much privacy, and the sound would probably echo through the entire house! Where should I stick my drums? In the attic? Haha
What Is a Good Brand of Drumsticks for a Beginner?
April 18th, 2010
admin I am 14 and I just had my first drum lesson yesterday. The place I go to also has a music store connected to it and I saw some zildjian drumsticks with white tips. They were $5.99 is this a good price? I don’t have a drum kit yet but I thought I would get some drumsticks to work on holding my drumsticks properly.
Electronic Drum Kit for a Beginner?
March 27th, 2010
admin Hey guys,
I am beginner at the drums and have taken a few lessons now. I was looking to buy an electronic drum kit (so that I don’t get thrown out of my pad).
I know for acoustic kits – Stagg, Zildjian and Vic Firth – are the big brands. Do you know which ones would be good for the E-version.
My requirements are this:
- Budget: £250 – 475
- Snare, Bass, 3xToms, 2x Cymbals
- I am based in the UK
Is there anything I should look for with respect to these kits?
Thanks very much for your help!
Abhi
Okay…
So, I have to decide between the Traps E450, and an equally priced Roland or Yamaha.
Now the E450 looks awesome, is a proper size which is important for me as a beginner, and has mesh heads.
The Roland (HD-1) and the Yamahas for the same price range look like Star Wars inventions but have superior sound quality.
What should I go for? Any ideas.
(Also, can some level 2 person please thumbs down the person who sent me the amazon link for drums. Ridiculous waste of cyber space! – Thanks!)
Beginner Drum Learning Question for Drum Expert?
March 17th, 2010
admin Hi, I have question for drum expert, or whoever likes to play drum.
I decide to start play drum few weeks ago, and have taken 3 lesson already. My instructor suggests me practice on the pad, and don’t purchase any set until later I develop some skill. I respect my instructor, and totally understand the meaning of it.
However, when I practice on the pad, I am not satisfy with it, because it is hard to get used to the foot without the drum pedal. Also, there’s no sound.
Personally, I know that to play drum it is important to practice the hitting and the muscle movement. To me, what motivates me to play is the sound of the drum, without it, there’s not much satisfaction while I practice with my pad.
In addition, I live in an apartment, and thinking to get a electronic set to practice, so I can have some sounds while I practice. By the way, I do love acoustic drum set, the sound and the feeling are fantastic. My question is, is it appropriate to practice on electronic set as beginner?

Is This a Good Drum Set for a Beginner?
February 17th, 2010
admin Hi,
I just took my first drum lessons yesterday, I did good, and I really like the drums. Obviously, I need to practice, so I want a drum set.
Is this a good drum set for a beginner?
http://www.musicianshut.com/product/dw-pacific-pdp-z5-5-piece-drum-shell-pack/Beginner-Drum-Sets
or
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Sound-Percussion-5-Piece-Drum-Set-490865-i1372732.gc
When I mean “good”, I just mean if it is sturdy and will not break… I can see that they are cheap drum sets, so the sound quality might not be that great.
I want a drum set that are $350 or less if you want to give me a link.
Thanks!
Beginner Drum Set…?
February 5th, 2010
admin I’m fifteen and about to start drum lessons…Anyway, I’m going to go to a few classes to see if I want to keep taking them, and if I do, I’ll buy a drum set. I was just wondering what a good drum set for a beginner would be. Any links will be appreciated. Oh, and I live in British Columbia, Canada, if it matters at all…
I know this is the wrong section, but there aren’t many people answering in the music sections…
