Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2ZA9VV02654N1 I generally LOVE Plan Toys & appreciate that they are eco-friendly & safe for kids, so when I saw this drum set I had to get it for my kids (especially since their dad is a professional drummer). Yes, the reviews are right–it comes apart VERY easily. I figured out how to twist the ties to secure the drums. However, the cymbol just pops right off, and actually slides out of the slot altogether while it’s being played. We’re definitely going to have to use some glue to secure everything a bit better. Another issue I have with the toy is that the drums actually wobble all over the place! I was expecting them to be more of a practice pad type structure, steady, secure & played like normal drums.
For a 3+ year old child, this set is a little too babyish, though it’s suggested age is 3+. We let our 1.5 year old play on them & he had an absolute ball! Since there are small parts on it (wooden balls used as latches), I don’t feel comfortable keeping it in his reach, unless I’m sitting with him and watching him directly though. Our 3 year old played them a few times & lost interest… & Our 5 year old likes them, but gets frustrated when the cymbols slide off.
My suggestions to Play Toys:
1) Make the drums stationary. They shouldn’t be flopping around.
2) The peices should be more secure. Some of the parents are noting that they like that it is a sort of “puzzle drum”–but I didn’t buy a puzzle drum, I bought a drum & expect it to at least stay together long enough for it to be played.
3) It should also be a bit bigger for a 3+ age range. It’s the perfect size for my 1.5 year old, but not intended for him.
I do like that it’s a wooden drumset (that’s a rarity!), eco-friendly & safe, and features a modern looking design, but my cons outweight my pros, so I wouldn’t recommend this toy without some changes being made to the design first.

My 15 month old loves playing with these drums. The set is rather small, but we weren’t looking for anything huge, so that’s fine with us. My one complaint is that the cymbal is not attached, and my son keeps lifting it off and hiding it around the house. However, it wouldn’t be too hard to glue the stand into place.

A great design/build and fun for the whole family. Had since holidays and no issues. Seems built to withstand a beating… no pun intended.

I bought this for my then 4 y.o. Well, she enjoyed it for a little while, but it was definitely too small for her and for sure not built to withstand the abuse from a typical pre-schooler. This might be a great toy for a toddler, but it wasn’t even a good fit for my 1.5 y.o. because the drums popped off so easily. It was frustrating for him. If you hit the drum too hard, it bounces back and the whole thing tips over. After a playdate, this thing was in shambles. The elastic bands that held the drums on broke off of the knobs that are supposed to go through the holes. I really like the company, but this drum set is just very poorly designed and the drums don’t make a very satisfying thump sound, either.
