Sorry, I just didn’t find this book realistic at all. The author tries very hard, but does not succeed in writing a well written book about childhood cancer.

It is extremely hard to do and the author was very unsuccessful with this book.

    Skip it!

My daughter’s middle school has been doing a book club for the parents since September. The LA teacher recommendated this book for our last club book and to include the students with their parents. We have just started the book and will have our first meeting next week. So far the story is very interesting and has us wanting to read more to see what is happening with the little brother’s health and how the older brother is handling the situation. I can’t wait to finish the book and to share our thought about the book with our kids/students. I think all the kids can relate to the boy in the story maybe not about the health issue but with the way he just wants things to be normal for him. This is a good book to discuss with your child. This is told by the older brother and how he is dealing with the issues in his life. It brings up good topics to share with our kids/students and is interesting to all ages. Its one of those books where you can ask how would you feel and what would you do in many different issues that teens/families go through.

Drums, girls, and Dangerous Pie is a entertaining book that I would recommend to teens ages 12-15. My book begins with a drummer named Stephen and his little brother Jefferey, making oatmeal at the kitchen counter. As soon as Stephen turned around, Jeffery fell out of his chair, just to hit his nose on the counter. His nose did not stop bleeding. Which lead to us finding out he has leukemia. Not much later, Stephen makes the “All City Band”. But due to Jeffereys cancer, Stephen’s grades drop. So if he doesn’t bring his grades back up, he cant stay on the band.

There is only a few characters in this book. But they are all main characters. Even so, I think that Stephen is the “main-ist” character in the book. Stephen is a thirteen year old boy who cannot stand his little brother. But you never really know how much you love someone until they are in trouble… health wise. Stephen’s appearance was described as a short kid with long brown hair. In the book he is often worried but tries to cover it up.

Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie is an inspiring book that has something in it for every felling in your body.
