@jammigal59 Hate to go “all commercial like” but this song can also be found on the soundtrack for “THE HARDER THEY COME” with Jimmy Cliff. This captures the era. Some of these songs are recorded in mono man, MONO! This LP, album, record (perhaps CD now) is a must……….in my opinion. THANKS

  4. silverhazey67 says:

@jammigal59 i know i was sayin that because alot of people think Boney M or sublime were the originals although still kickass covers gotta give it up to the originals

  5. jammigal59 says:

@silverhazey67 The Melodians did this in 1965 as ska/rocksteady and it is from Psalm 137.

The Melodians started in 1965 Jamaica by Tony Brevett (brother of Skatalites bassist). Rivers Of Babylon was made famous in the US from the soundtrack of the 1973 Jimmy Cliff movie ‘The Harder They Come’. Get that soundtrack if you like this song.

  15. ricksouza says:

    Also Psalm 19:14

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart, be pleasing in your sight, O LORD…

    Salmo 19:14

Sejam agradáveis as palavras da minha boca e a meditação do meu coração perante a tua face, Senhor…

  16. butter808fly says:

wow, i used to listen to this song from sublime and I knew it was about something Christian but now that I read the Bible.. it’s actually straight from Psalm 137 (not king alpha but “songs of the Lord”.. amen! awesome band back in teh day.
