Hopefully, I can get my hands on a drumset someday to write with, and I'll remember to use this. It really does sound like a timpani, I'm curious to find out what a timpani sounds like if struck with a normal drumstick. (Like thousands of dollars going down the tube?) Timpani heads are much more durable than you might think and many good timpanists actually have a set of timpani mallets that are wooden at the tip. It's certainly possible to dent the head a little bit, so don't do it on the best drums and don't do it extremely loudly. And if you DO happen to damage it, it's not thousands of $5,000 down the tube. Timpani heads are about $70 and are replaceable. @originalpckelly
